Those
interested in such things will have noticed the growing dominance of
the classics in these charts. This is partialy due to more & more
classes & socials adopting a classics format (ie: ditching the
harder, newer dances) & the consequent diminishing of the number of
intermediate & above classes, socials and indeed dancers across
Sydney. Further, those classes & socials which do cater
for upper level dancers are becoming increasingly isolated in
terms of the dances being done, increasingly doing their own dances. As
a result, few upper level dances are appearing in the charts &
those that do tend to have a very short residency in the charts (there
are a lot of dances at this level below the cut-off of 3
times/month). Having done a monthly survey of teaches &
socials on the Sydney line dance scene for over 7 years I feel I can
speak with some authority here, unlike instructors whose focus tends to
be limited by necessity to their own students. Whether this is a good
or a bad thing that is happening, I decline to comment on, only that is
*IS* happening.
