A Follett Family
----------------

The Follett's of Sidmouth, Devon and environs. Sidmouth is a port on
the southern coast of Devon, about 22 km east of Exeter. Salcombe Regis
is a small village a few km to the east of Sidmouth. Topsham is a
port in the mouth of the River Exe, just south of Exeter. Lyme Regis
is on the Dorset side of the Devon-Dorset border and lies on the coast.

These Follett's are not known to be connected to mine however William,
born 1808, is a possible candidate for my ancestor, William, born
between 1800-1810 and who first appears in Littleham in 1838. Littleham
is about 11km west of Sidmouth, on the coast adjacent to Exmouth.
Exmouth is halfway between Topsham and Sidmouth and is a major naval
port. My ancestor was illiterate and whilst in Devon worked as a farm
labourer so would seem an unlikely match with the following family.

This family of Follett's have been well-connected, containing many
prominent figures. Most of them have also been quite wealthy, with
the family being heavily involved in the merchant and marintine
fields as far back as records go.
