Boots and Bolos Line Dancing
We took up line dancing in 1994, Judy as an Instructor and Brian as her assistant. In this time we have both competed in competitions with Judy winning her age group in the single section of the 2005 NZ championships. Also since the introduction of “THE BEAT” Line Dancing Awards in 2000 we have been presented with many of these awards ranging from Best Event of the Year to Promotion Person of the Year (twice). In 2007 we received a special recognition award for our efforts in line dancing. Along with chorographing dances and arranging fun bus trips for fellow line dancers where we attend events in both the North and South Islands, we also like to host instructors from Australia and around the world.

November News:
Will we finaliy have had a weekend away for line dancing instead of working and what a great weekend it was. It all began when Jude and I left left Hawera at 1.30 Friday morning to make our way to Wellington where we picked up Rosalie and Other Bruce before making our way to catch the ferry. On arriving at the ferry termaial we then caught up with some more of the group that would be our companions for the rest of the weekend. These consisted of Barbara,,Mary Agnes Christine, Daryl, Carly and Maria with another Christine and Liz who were flying over to catch up with us later in Blenhiem. Also on board the ferry were the Cook Strait line dancers with Judy who was to D.J the weekend in charge of this lot. Then  there was Susan, Margaret and Jenny as well along for the ride. It was good to see John and Barbara Neish on this trip as it gave Brian the chance to have a chat over the weekend with John who he hadn`t seen for awhile. Once on the other side we picked up our two vans and headed off to Blenhiem with Daryl and  Bruce (Moss) Stirlings Brother at the wheel, We booked into the motel before one of the vans went out to the airport to pick up the two girls that had flown over. Now with everyone accounted for it was time to get ourselves sorted for the Friday “Party Theme” night. Not a lot one can do for this unless you think outside the square but we did have part of the group turn up as party animals wearing leopard skin dresses and shorts. Then as usual there`s always a couple of nuts who are likely to turn up as punk party drop outs.
Not the best look when you are going out to dine at a hotel first. But what the hell it was fun. We even found a small punk rocker “Adam of Wanaka” at the motel so we just had to have our photo taken with. After dinner it was off to the hall for the Friday night social where to our suprise we caught up with Josh Talbot who we had hosted a few years back with his mother Julie. We also got to meet up with Nia another Aussie who had visited us for one of our big weekends and we hadnt seen since our trip to gympie two years ago. Its so good to be able to catch up with all the old friends and make some new ones on these trips. Of course theres always the hard cases that you dont forget like Pauline Mooney and her happy group. Then theres Gaham and Wendy along with Rob and Mary not to mention Yvonne and her daugher Linda who had flowin down from Auckland for the occasion. It`s a pity that this is Gourmet`s last big weekend as it has always been a great event and one not to be missed but it seems to be a sign of the times as we all get older and wish to explore other things while we still can. Judith said it was possible that they may hold one on their 20th year. Brian reckons he will be lucky to remember what day it is let alone how the hell the dances go by then. Maybe we might have to look at revising either a bus or van trip around the South Island if there is enough interest so that we can all keep in contact with each other.
Saturday morning it was into town for a look around before heading off to the workshop where Brett taught some very nice dances. Then back to the motel for a few refreshments and a spruce up before heading back to the Cork and Keg for dinner once more. Saturday`s night social was a brian teaser with dances from the last fifteen years being done but it was a most enjoyable evening along with great friendship and hospitality Back to the motel for a few night caps before bed. How ever there was the odd one that didnt look as bright and bushy tailed as some on the Sunday morning when heading off to breakfast. Wonder why that was. Going to look into why we were first at the club for breakfast as well as last year we were the last to arrive. Yep fines being handed out again by Jenny King as this time Jude didn`t escape the kean eye of Judith on Friday night and was caught dancing on the seat when there was plenty of room on the floor. Next it was the auction and we ended up with this babys bonnet. Brian reckons it`s not his size or does Jude no something he doesn`t. He was looking a bit worried at his age. After a few curcuts of the roundabout we dropped
Mary Agnus off at the  bus depot as she was heading off to Nelson then we made our way back to Picton  for our return trip where we said goodbye to Rosalie, Bruce and Christine then continued  our trip back to Hawera arriving at nine thirty in time for the rugby. There were a few new faces in the group this year who were a lot of fun to be with and we enjoyed their company for the tirp. Thanks for putting up with us. We are sure every one that attended would of had a wonderful time and we would like to thank Judith and all her crew for such a great weekend and over the last fifteen years. Enjoy your break you deserve it. Well Done to you all.
